i wanted to choose another short (read: one season) series to do next so i can keep the momentum going. i also wanted to choose something i had never heard of. enter Mildred Pierce.

what the hell has kate winslet been in recently? she's of those names that i recognize but i couldn't pick her out of a lineup. actually, i don't even know if i could name any movie she's in without going to her imdb.
towards the end of the pilot, mildred is eating at a diner when one of the servers catches another stealing tips from her. they start yelling at each other and the owner fires them. moments later they continue their dispute in the kitchen with the other servers involved and mildred walks in. they owner asks "are you here to work?" and she says yes and starts working that day. in what fucking world does this happen?
